With so many people used to video phones and the like, it is almost hard to believe that fifty years ago, that technology was considered to be only plausible for alien races. Thus, it is interesting to hear a story about a world where magic, or something akin to it, is considered the norm; one might like to be in the same position as that story’s characters some day. Real Steel brings audiences a more advanced version of Robot Wars, with these battles between metal titans overshadowing their human counterparts. This world where the film takes place is even an interesting and believable one to spend some time in.
War of the Machines
In Real Steel, Charlie (Hugh Jackman), a washed-up former boxer, is not exactly having the best of luck. His robot fighter ends up totalled by a bull, and he sinks further into debt. After another failure with a different robot, his son Max (Dakota Goyo) finds an old robot used for sparring in a scrapyard. While Charlie is skeptical, Max believes ‘Atom’ can be moulded and reformed into a great fighter. Max’s predictions prove correct, as Atom proves a success for the father-son team, and goes on to enter the championships against the powerful ‘Zeus’ robot.
